the national cyberspace administration’s “qinglang” special campaign continues to deepen, specifically targeting online course platforms for minors. since july, this 2020 summer online environment governance effort has focused on various issues in the online course learning section. today’s news: the cyberspace administration, together with the ministry of education, launched a special rectification of online course platforms for minors, cracking down on illegal information and behaviors that affect the physical and mental health of young people. according to the latest released results, the national cyberspace system has temporarily suspended updates on 64 websites, cancelled or revoked permits or filings of 6,907 illegal websites in coordination with telecom authorities, and shut down a large number of违规 accounts and groups—totaling over 860,000. recent information shows that some typical cases have been made public: the app “pi gai wang” actually转载s information with bad orientation and pushed content like “dating” and “finding a partner” on its wechat public account; the q&a section of “a fan ti sou ti” app had a fan group ranking feature, and user avatars and account names were full of vulgar information; the “family square” of “bi shen zuo wen” app had many celebrity support groups and involved topics like “boys and girls” and “dating”; the recommendation column of “hao fen shu xue sheng ban” app was filled with fan circle chasing content, as well as entertainment content like “funny” and “internet celebrity covers”. according to the latest news, these platforms’ online course sections not only pushed vulgar information but also contained a large amount of live streaming, games, entertainment, and other content unrelated to learning. for example, sohu’s “primary, middle, and high school education” column, youku’s “education” channel, haokan video’s “primary school student private tutoring class”, and mango tv’s “primary and secondary school courses” all mixed in vulgar and illegal information, as well as shopping ads, suspense stories, etc. in addition, 11 commonly used tool apps on 5 platforms had too many pop-ups—2345 browser, iqiyi, baidu input method, kuaiya, liebao browser, etc.—bundled with multiple pop-up plug-ins that interfered with online course presentation and even pushed vulgar content. more seriously, the app “weavi” contained a large amount of obscene and pornographic novels, and the app “chengguang” contained vulgar, pornographic, and harmful novels. platforms such as sina weibo, douban, douyin, interest tribe, super star meal, and ido induced minors to participate in support ranking, large consumption, and mutual insults. there were also websites like “pickled cucumber gentleman” that spread violent and bloody “cult” animations. in response to these issues, the cyberspace administration lawfully took measures including interviews, rectification, removal from shelves, and suspension of internet access. next, they will step up inspections, strictly investigate non-compliant platforms, and welcome netizen supervision and reporting.
